Self love is a concept that's preached everywhere. It's a wonderful concept, but can sometimes seem difficult to practice in everyday life. It’s a simple thought process really, putting yourself first, prioritizing your well being over others, and doing things for you. But in reality, this concept can be hard to grasp with all the little voices in our minds telling us otherwise, preaching insecurities, self doubt, and worry. It’s the reason why it may be difficult to keep our rooms clean, wash the dish mound in the sink, and even put away laundry. Society has conditioned us that the feeling of "being in love" requires another person. But I think that's a flawed concept. The real power is falling in love with your most authentic self because then everything will start falling into place. Once you cultivate this mindset and apply it to your life, you'll start attracting everything that’s meant for you. Falling in love with yourself doesn’t have to take years, it happens naturally everyday with small consistent and intentional steps. The end result is increased happiness, self efficacy, and an overall better outlook on what life has to offer.
Practice patience. There's no point in getting worked up over a temporary inconvenience. Stop stressing and start breath work. In the wise words of my mother, even if it bothers you, never let them see you sweat.
Recognize that you're the one you've been looking for. Society has conditioned us that we need a partner in all aspect of life. But let's be real, we're not finding that special person if we can't learn to love ourselves first. Once you are wholeheartedly in love with yourself and actually believe it, the right person will come into your life to match your efforts and energy. Trust the process and watch the magic work.
Find peace within yourself. Life is tough and sometimes gets hectic. Stop looking for peace elsewhere and start from within. Journal, meditate, pray, or practice affirmations and manifestations. Do whatever you feel is calling you.
Get to know yourself. Journal and think deeply of your biggest fears and insecurities. What's on your mind that's consuming your thoughts in that negative feedback loop. Write it out and rip it up. It's cathartic and now out of your mind, so now it's time to start living.
Be okay being alone. It's time to get in tune with your ultimate self power and go to that restaurant and eat alone. Not only does it raise your freedom to be, but also improves your self esteem and efficacy to produce a desired effect. Have some fun and people watch and just find happiness with your imagination. Ground yourself and live in the present.
Move with kindness. Treat others the way you want to be treated. It's the golden rule of life. Spread love not hate and watch all the goodness flourish to you. To me, this is the foundation of lucky girl syndrome.
Stop comparing yourself to others. This can definitely be hard, especially with society's pressures and expectations. But don’t let this hinder you from expressing the real you. It's totally uncool to try to act or dress like someone who you think is 'popular' because popularity is a social construct and doesn’t exist. Start being you and watch your people find you.
Get out of your comfort zone. You can't grow or level up if you stay constant. I was always scared to try new things without an emotional support friend to come try it with me, but now I prefer to do things on my own. Doing my own thing when I want to allows me to meet new people, take my time exploring, and have a sense of independence from the chaos of my regular life. Try it out.
Start searching for internal validation. The only person who can truly get to know the real you is yourself. You're together 24/7, so why not learn to become your own best friend. Stop looking for that external validation from your friends, family, or significant other and start looking for it within yourself.
Realize that you're the baddest b*tch of all. Fake it until you become it besties, it's the greatest advice I ever received. So now I’m passing on the wise words of wisdom to the collective.
Below are some of my recommendations to help you get into the mindset of putting yourself first.
