10 Ways To Show Yourself More Love

First and foremost, do what makes you happy. Stop and take a moment to smell the roses and be in the present. In order to feel your best, you need to nourish your body with whole foods and healthy habits. By putting yourself first, you learn to love yourself and in doing so you become capable of loving others. During the peak pandemic when all my classes were online, I felt like I was in limbo and that all the days jumbled together. As a result, one of my top New Year’s Resolution was to increase self care into my life. Below is a list of 10 ideas to facilitate self care within your daily life:

  1. Buy yourself flowers. I feel like buying yourself flowers is something that’s circulating social media apps as a form of self care. I am a firm believer that doing something nice like buying flowers for yourself constitutes as dating yourself. Why wait for someone to buy you flowers when you can be your biggest advocate and buy your own. One of the biggest forms of self care is putting yourself first, so what better way that to date yourself.

  2. Read a book. I’m an avid reader. I think my love for books came from my 6th grade English class where we read The Great Gatsby and The Old Man and the Sea. It was through books like these where I realized that reading has the ability to transport you to another reality.

  3. Journal. Write what you feel. Find journal prompts that match your present emotions. When overthinking, mind dump what you feel on paper and everything might just feel a little lighter.

  4. Write a letter to your future self. I tend to write myself future letters especially when I’m feeling overwhelmed. In doing so, I’m able to look back and remember why I wrote the letter and recognize that sometimes life gets hard, but in the long run it won’t matter as much as it did in that moment. I am a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason.

  5. Clean your space. Cluttered space= cluttered mind. A phrase that I firmly stand by. A clean space is essential for a clear mind. A clear mind leads to great things. Therefore, keeping a clean space is essential for feeling your best.

  6. Create a vision board. By being able to see your goals and aspirations, it’s hard to forget what you’re working towards. Having goals in life only makes your passions stronger and; therefore, more attainable.

  7. Watch the sunrise/ sunset. Taking time out of the day to enjoy the beauties of the simple things of everyday life is one of my favorite forms of self care. I both pulled all nighters to watch the sunrise and watched the clock to make it to sunset. By planning your day to include these activities, you have the power to increase your gratitude to the things around you.

  8. Watch a Ted Talk. There are a lot of great Ted Talks out there and many of them have helped me work through my insecurities. In doing so, I’ve changed my mindset and am striving to be my best in every situation. To me, Ted Talks act as self motivators when I need them the most and offer me solid advice for when I’m feeling in a rut.

  9. Go on a solo date. You learn a lot about yourself when you’re alone. Going on solo dates with yourself not only allows you to become more independent, but also more confident. A word to the wise, no one cares if you eat alone. I’m well aware it’s a common fear, one that I used to have until I got tired of waiting on people to do stuff. By learning how to put yourself first and not caring what others thing, you are already way ahead of the game and winning at life.

  10. Exercise. Get your body moving. It’s scientifically proven that exercise produces endorphins that trigger positive feelings within the body.
