10 Procrastination Busters
It happens to the best of us, not having the drive or motivation to complete a task, having a bad day, not being in the right mind space. Sometimes life just gets busy and it's hard to find time to complete some tasks. To me, procrastination occurs due to lack of consistency in routine. My #1 procrastination tendency has to be laundry. I'm not sure why, but laundry is the one chore that I always shove to the side until I have no choice but to do it. In order to become more consistent with my laundry, I decided to dedicate Wednesday's and Sunday's to complete the task. By setting a dedicated laundry routine, I am now able to rely on consistency rather than trying to find the feeling of motivation. My issue of laundry is just one example of how procrastination affects my daily life and how consistency can help prevent this. Time management and organization are other aspects that of my life that I've prioritized working on in 2022 and now 2023.
Below are 10 tried and true ways that have helped me get my life together. Hold yourself to high expectation and shock yourself on what you can accomplish.
Make your bed. I know it might seen redundant, but in my experience making the bed in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Meditate. Sometimes life just gets overwhelming and having a clear headspace can help you see life for how it is. Meditation allows me to ground myself to the present moment and to reevaluate what's really important in my current life.
Write lists. I write lists to find my priorities, organize what I have to do in a day, and to remember what groceries I need to buy. Psychologically, people love lists because it’s a visual representation of what needs to get done and it’s satisfying to cross things out. Try it out.
Get a calendar. Write down assignments, appointments, due dates, and anything important happening in life.
Exercise. Refuel your mind, body, and soul. Increase your energy and improve your mood.
Stop multitasking. Pick a task, stick to it, then move on with another.
Find your priorities. When you write your 20 things, condense your list to the top 5. Once you have your top 5, focus on that and ignore the other 15 you just crossed out.
Remember to rest. Take time to slow down. The body can only go so long without sleep.
Practice daily affirmations. What you say to yourself and how you treat yourself manifests itself into reality. Remember to be kind to yourself and prioritize your health and how you feel.
Visualize your goals. Create vision boards. Seeing your dream reality puts the energy towards it actually happening. Everything on my 2022 vision board came true- manifestation at its finest.
Important take a ways: remember to be kind to yourself, to feel your feelings, and to be consistent with your daily practices.
